Throughout 2020 I’m on a mission to find Melbourne’s best Italian restaurants, food stores and eating places – and of course go back to visit some of my favourites. Make a visit to these great Italian places and at the same time explore a part of Melbourne you haven’t seen before!
Balwyn
Boccaccio Cellars
One of the best places in Melbourne to go for your weekly stock-up and getting the goods for your picnic. Cheese is the real showcase here, not to mention the extensive deli, pasta and Italian sweets sections. Linked to its high-end bottle shop.
Brunswick
Mediterranean Wholesalers
A true Italian experience, you will always find some nonni here. It’s the ultimate store for Italian specialities, pasta, the best fresh bread, wine & beverages. Remember to get yourself a coffee and a sweet at the café before heading off!
Bundoora
Psarakos Market
Fantastic family-owned speciality store selling all things Mediterranean – Panettones, cheap fruit & veg, and of course a great selection liquor.
Camberwell
Boss Pizzeria
A very cute little pizzeria opposite Camberwell Station, started up by two master pizzaioli.
Carlton
DOC Espresso
One of the most popular Italian places in the Lygon Street precinct. DOC Espresso solely focuses on Breakfast and Panini, Antipasti, Pasta, and Dolci, making its quality even more special. The Pasta menu ranges to 8-9 different dishes and regularly changes throughout the year so you can experience something different next time you walk in. Even if its pouring rain outside, there will be plenty customers at Espresso.
King & Godfree
Pidapipó Gelateria
Super tasty gelato at probably my most favourite gelateria in Melbourne. Extensive selection of Italian flavours…and of course that warm Nutella tap that constantly runs. The staff are always fun and friendly here.
East Melbourne
Geppetto Trattoria
Geppetto’s is a classic Italian neighbourhood restaurant conveniently located across from the MCG and Melbourne & Olympic Parks. Serves up beautiful pasta dishes in a warm, comfortable environment.
Roccella
Elsternwick
Via Campanella Cucina & Bar
A classy family restaurant that brings coastal Southern Italy to the table.
Melbourne
Cellar Bar
One of Grossi Florentino’s three unique eating places on 80 Bourke Street, Cellar Bar is your typical Italian bar – where pasta is the staple food.
Pellegrini’s Espresso Bar
A very special place in Melbourne City – a real and authentic Italian espresso bar with its own signature welcome and charm. Offers traditional and delicious pasta dishes, and of course fantastic coffee. Continues to miss the late local hero, Sisto Malaspina.
